Crispy Tofu

 

  

They may look like fishfingers or almond slices, but these smoked tofu rectangles are the biz -  a healthy, crispy and versatile recipe of the vegan staple.

Cost per Batch: £4 (€4.50) 

Preparation time: 5 minutes. Cooking time: 15 minutes

Ingredients (for 12 tofu fingers)

200g smoked tofu

3 heaped tablespoons of cornflour

1 teaspoon of paprika

4 tablespoons of coconut oil

3 tablespoons of Soy sauce

3 tablespoons of fruit juice

1 tablespoon of Sweet chilli sauce

Juice of ½ lemon

 

Equipment

Large frying pan

Mixing bowl

Spatula

Serving dish

 

1. In a large bowl, mix the cornflower with the paprika, salt and pepper.

2. Cut the block of tofu into 1cm strips and place into bowl, covering them on all sides with cornflour.

3. Add the coconut oil to the frying pan on high and once hot, gently place the tofu fingers into pan.

4. Fry tofu fingers for 2-3 minutes each side. Once crispy, remove and place on serving dish.

5. Into the pan add the sweet chilli sauce, soy sauce, fruit juice and lemon juice and allow to bubble for 4 minutes, stirring gently.

6. Pour sauce over the tofu fingers and serve with sticky rice and stir-fried vegetables.
