Countdown Full

English Breakfast

35 minutes

 

Imagine you are in a hotel on Hastings seafront. You are at the stove, pricking the sausages, stirring the mushrooms, scalding your hands on the tea in a floral apron, talking about ‘sunny side up’ as the rain buckets down outside. Set your countdown timer for 35 minutes.

 

Ingredients (per person)

2 sausages

2 rashers of bacon

1/2 tin of Baked beans

2 slices of toast

2 eggs

Milk

6 mushrooms

Cup of tea

Fruit juice

 

Equipment

1 frying pan

1 spatula

2 spoons

3 saucepans

1 glass bowl

Toaster

Foil

 

Set the countdown for 35 minutes

35: Put the frying pan on high heat

34: Peel the mushrooms, remove their stalks and cut into slices

32: Add the sausages to the frying pan

26: Turn the sausages over and turn the heat down to medium

20: Turn the sausages again

17: Turn the sausages again

14: Making sure the sausages are cooked all over, remove them, wrap in some foil and set aside

13: Put the bacon in the hot frying pan

10: Put the mushrooms into a small pan with a knob of butter, a pinch of pepper and herbs and heat on medium

9: Turn the bacon over

8: Open the can of beans, pour into a saucepan and heat on medium-low

7: Crack the eggs into a glass bowl and whisk with a fork, adding a dash of milk and 2 twists of pepper

6: Put the eggs into a small pan with a knob of butter and heat on medium-low

5: Boil the kettle. Stir the mushrooms and eggs.

4: Make the tea however you like it. Put the bread in the toaster or in the frying pan with the bacon if you like fried bread (add a dash of oil and turn up to high)

3: Stir the eggs and beans and mushrooms and check the bacon is not sticking

2: Continue to stir the eggs. Get out the plates

1: Pour the juice. Put the toast on the plate, add the sausages, bacon, beans, mushrooms and wait until the egg is the consistency of porridge before spooning onto the toast
